Most importantly, this program helps students develop a personal relationship with Jesus, and how to become a disciple. This will be used at the SRW Day School and for PSR Confirmation.

8th Grade Confirmation Material:

We will be using the Purpose Confirmation resource curated by LIFE TEEN. Purpose is a resource that will create a space for young people to understand what it means to be a disciple and integrate them into the life of the Parish. This will be used at the SRW Day School and for PSR Confirmation.

Confirmation Candidate and Parent Essay:

We are asking all incoming 1st year (7th Grade) and 8th Grade if haven't done so already, to complete an essay from both the Parent and the Candidate's perspective. The essay's purpose is to help the youth minister and catechists have a sense of where the candidate is starting this part of their faith journey towards Confirmation.

For the Parent essay, it's to help the Youth Minister and catechists to have a sense of your intentions for this Sacrament and where they align with the candidate.
Each essay should be typed, no longer than 500 words. It should be emailed to mcox@srweuclid.cc or michaelcox@srwschool.cc.

Here are the questions for the Candidate Essay:

1. What type of Catholic Christian man or woman do you envision being in the future?
2. What steps do you need to take to get closer to God?

Here are the questions for the Parent Essay:
1. How have you shared with your child the importance of this Sacrament?
2. What is the hope or vision you have for your child after he or she receives this Sacrament?

These essays are due by November 18, 2024.

Choosing a Saint for Your Confirmation and Choosing a Sponsor:

The custom of adopting a saint’s name at confirmation was done to adopt the saint as a special heavenly patron or to honor a saint to whom one had a special devotion. In short, the purpose was to give the confirmandi the opportunity to develop his understanding of and reliance on the communion of saints.

If you have a Christian name given to you at Baptism, you can use this as well. This is a great way to emphasize the link between baptism and Confirmation.

A Sponsor is a person who will journey with you towards your Confirmation. They should be a practicing Catholic, Confirmed, over the age of 16, and, if married, in a valid Catholic Marriage. They do not need to be the same gender as the Candidate, and they may not be a biological parent of the Candidate.

You will be required to submit at least 3 paragraphs explaining why you chose your Saint for Confirmation. Typed and emailed to Michael - mcox@srweuclid.cc or michaelcox@srwschool.cc by Monday January 6th, 2025.

The same is required for your chosen Sponsor. Please submit 3 paragraphs explaining why you chose your Sponsor for Confirmation. Typed and emailed to Michael by January 6th, 2025.

The reason for having this done in the first year is to allow the Candidate to develop spiritual relationships with both the Saint and their Sponsor. This is very important for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

8th Grade Reflection Letter:

As the 2nd year of Confirmation comes to an end, the Candidate will be required to write a reflection letter to the Pastor and the youth minister. It will be a series of questions and an essay question about their decision to be Confirmed. More information on this and the deadline will be handed out later in the year.

Service Projects:

7th and 8th Grade students in both SRW Day school and PSR Confirmation must complete 20 hours of service. If you need ideas on what you can do for service, please contact Michael.

Rite of Confirmation Liturgy:

The Confirmation Liturgy will be held on April 27th, 2:30PM, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Downtown Cleveland. We are clustered with 3 other parishes. Other parishes include, Our Lady of the Lake in Euclid, St. Clare in Lyndhurst, Sacred Heart in South Euclid, and Ss. Robert & William/St. John of the Cross.
